Matt Clarke completed his apprenticeship with O'Brien® eight years ago and has worked with the company ever since, servicing predominately the Northern Suburbs of Sydney.
Although he joined as an apprentice, glazing is his second trade, having already worked as a fitter and machinist.
Matt says the best thing about being on the tools with O'Brien® is the comradery and the fact that every day in the job is different.
“I love how everyone brings their own skills and experience to the role. There are lots of tips and tricks and everyone brings something unique. I have been fortunate enough to have worked in a great team and been taught well.”
Matt admits to being a perfectionist in his work, which is great news for his customers.
“The best part about my job is seeing the job from start to finish; assessing the damage, working to fix the damage and then ensuring the customer is happy and satisfied with the result.”
There has been a fair bit of development in Matt’s part of Sydney and he has relished the opportunity to work on large scale commercial jobs that require more than one glazier. In the biz, they are referred to as “multi-handler”.
“The large scale commercial stuff can be complex and require different thinking to be able to do the work safely but I find it hugely rewarding to solve those problems as part of a team.”
Outside of work, Matt is a keen snowboarder and the sport has taken him around the world. He’s looking forward to getting his daughter out on a board in time.
