O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing celebrates International Electricians Day!
7 June 2024
Today marks International Electricians Day, a time to honour and appreciate the tireless efforts of our skilled electricians who diligently serve customers in managing their electrical requirements. Undoubtedly, electricians are pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation of both residential and commercial electrical systems, contributing significantly to the functionality of our modern world.
We believe it’s important to celebrate the dedication of our electricians not just one day, but everyday. We recently sat down with two of our standout electrical experts, Ray and Paul to learn more about their journey in the electrical industry. Ray Sherriff, is the Owner of O’Brien Electrical Granville and NSW representative on the board of Master Electricians and Paul Harty, is the Owner oft O'Brien Electrical & Plumbing Greensborough and has been a Member of the O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Network for 20 years!
What are some of the best aspects of being an electrician?
Ray believes there are many aspects of his job that makes being an electrician great – “Solving difficult/complex problems with machinery and equipment. Seeing how technology evolves and changes. Another aspect that I enjoy is that we’re constantly having to learn and stay on top of new systems and tech”
Paul has a similar experience, he says the highlights of the job are “Working with great people and solving their problems every day. No two days are the same! I also love seeing our apprentices and tradespeople excel in their trade.”
Why did you become an electrician?
“Because plumbers need heroes to look up to haha! My uncle was an electrician and from a young age I was always around equipment, usually breaking it then trying to mend it. He was head electrician at a local factory so he got me an apprenticeship and I’ve never looked back!” says Ray.
Paul also comes from a trade-oriented family, saying “I was looking to become either a plumber, builder or electrician, as I enjoyed working and solving problems with my hands and not digging holes”.
Why is celebrating International Electricians Day important?
Ray says “Without us, the systems everyone takes for granted just wouldn’t work. Data, security, communications, media, all rely on an electrician in the background somewhere. (and because we’re just all round good guys!)”
Paul tells us “Because it’s one of the best trades to be involved in (and you would not be able to see in the dark without us!)”
It’s true, we rely on our trusted electricians everyday to keep our society operating at 100%. That’s why we think it’s important to give a big thank you to our O’Brien Electrical professionals. Cheers to Ray and Paul for celebrating International Electricians Day with us. Are you looking for a local electrician to help you with a variety of services when you need it most?
