The Advantage Conference 2023 held in Perth, W.A presented a fantastic opportunity for the O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing and Laser Network to engage in valuable business updates, hear from inspirational keynote speakers and celebrate the Network’s amazing achievements over the past year.
The recipient of Taskforce this year was the very worthy charity, Parkerville Children and Youth Care. Around 60 tradespeople, Supplier representatives and enthusiastic volunteers joined together to provide valued refurbishments to Rosemary Cottage. The Total Project Value was $72,000, with a focus on renovations that had a positive sustainability impact. The project included:
- Electrical Upgrades – LED Lighting, Replace Existing Electrical
- Plumbing & Drainage Upgrades – Water Conservation, Preventive Maintenance
- Glazing – Replacing Broken Windows
- General – Painting, Cleaning
- Appliances – New Kitchen Appliances and a new BBQ

Day One saw the Advantage Conference 2023 kick off to a great start. With keynote speaker Bruce Cotterill and a Networking Night sponsored by Lawrence & Hanson at the Sandalford Winery.
On Day Two, Conference attendees heard from keynote speaker John Hale, aka “The Strategy Guy,” who shared his insights on demystifying strategy by asking better questions through his “Three Questions Hack,”. Many support office internal presented business insights and plans for 2024, including Gark Larkin, Operations Development Manager, who delivered the Member Experience Programme. This included some great networking events targeted for the back half of next year.
The final keynote speaker, adventurer James Castrission, wowed the audience with stories of some of his World Record setting expeditions – crossing the Tasman Sea in a kayak and journeying unassisted to the South Pole. Over an interactive 90-minute session, his message of determination in the face of adversity and decision-making under pressure was inspiring.
The Advantage Conference Gala Awards Night is a celebration of all the Network has achieved over the past year. It is an opportunity to recognise individuals and Member businesses who are outstanding in a range of different awards categories.
