In January 2024, the new Educational Precinct at Padua College in Mornington officially opened its doors to students. This expansive commercial construction project is an innovative educational hub for over 550 Year 7 and 8 students and educators. The new precinct hosts classrooms, STEM facilities, a stunning amphitheatre, administration areas and staffing spaces.
O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Rowville completed the supply, installation, energising, and commissioning of electrical and communication systems – both within the new construction and the necessary connections to the existing buildings. Our goal was to achieve seamless integration between these buildings, ensuring a cohesive and functional environment for the students.
This technology-driven facility reflects our dedication to quality craftsmanship and the future of education and It has been thoughtfully designed to nurture young minds and inspire creativity for generations to come.
What we did on this Landmark Project
Led by our Head of Commercial Construction, Michael Ralph, and his team of skilled electricians, this project involved completing underground conduits, modifying existing switchboards, and installing new ones. The team installed sub mains cabling, a comprehensive lighting and control package, exit and emergency lighting, power installations and skirting ducts. From a communications perspective new infrastructure and racks were established as well as fiber connections linking to the existing buildings, and a building-wide PA system inclusive of hearing augmentation.
The amphitheatre is one of the highlights of the Year 7 and 8 building. It features a stunning LED lighting showcase that enhances the pendants, walls, steps, and seating, all centred around a striking central pendant. To boost functionality and seamless integration, power points have been cast into the concrete beneath the seats, and new underground conduits with updated cables have been installed. The existing switchboards were also modified, demonstrating an innovative approach that adds both convenience and aesthetic appeal.
Every aspect of the new building has been meticulously designed to cultivate a positive learning environment, fostering creativity and collaboration among students and educators.
Notably, our construction team completed the project on time and on budget, allowing the school to open the new centre when school commenced for the year.
A Partnership for Success
We are incredibly proud to have worked closely with Padua College throughout this project. Earlier this year, David Lawn, Director of Business at Padua College, expressed his excitement as the doors were opened to students for the first time. In his words:
“We could not have opened this building without the assistance of the O’Brien team. You really presented an opportunity for the first time in the history of Padua College for a major building to be completed on time,” said Lawn.
A true testament to the dedication, expertise, and hard work that our team poured into this project.
A Lasting Impact on the new Educational Precinct
At O’Brien Electrical & Plumbing Rowville, we are thrilled to have contributed to such an important and transformative project. The new Year 7 and 8 building at Padua College will serve as a hub for learning and creativity, benefiting students and educators for years to come.
