What is test and tag?

Test and tag is the process of checking the safety of every portable electrical appliance in your home or business.
It consists of two parts: first, inspecting the appliance visually for any damage; second, testing it electrically with a Portable Appliance Tester.

The importance of a test and tag service
When working around a lot of electrical equipment that is portable, there are risks that an accident could take place.
Should an accident occur, employers should make sure they are legally protected.
Testing and tagging services offer evidence that an employer took the necessary precautions to ensure that the workplace is as safe as possible for their employees and customers by having the electrical appliances inspected.
By testing and tagging regularly, you comply with Australian safety standards.
Additionally, testing and tagging services could lower insurance prices as it proves that there are fewer chances for an electrical accident to take place on the worksite.

What is the process of a test and tag service?
When you book for test and tag services from us, we will send a skilled and expert technician to your workplace or home to undertake the checks.
Our technician will carry out both a visual and electrical test to identify any problems with the electrical devices.
After the inspection has taken place, our technician will leave a test tag on any equipment they have tested.
What is the purpose of this tag? It states the results of the test, who carried out the test, the date of the test, and when the equipment must be retested. A copy of this information is also given to the employer.
If there are any problems, the employer needs to take the steps to fix them and ensure safety in their workplace.
What type of electrical equipment is tested and tagged?
Any electrical equipment that has a removable plug, cable, and does not exceed 50V such as portable RCDs and extension cords.
What type of problems do the technicians look for?
- Wiring faults
- Frayed cords
- Damaged equipment caused by exposure to harsh chemicals
- Leakage of current
- Faults in the earthing system
