Level 2 Electrical Service Provider

17 January 2024

Level 2 Electrical Service Provider

As part of our willingness to grow and meet demand, our capabilities now include Level 2 Electrical Services.

Level 2 electricians undergo advanced training to gain additional qualifications accredited by the NSW Government which permit them to work with the electricity network.

The key difference between a Level 1 accredited Service Provider and a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider is that a Level 2 is qualified to carry out installations, repairs and maintenance work on service lines that run between a property ( both commercial & residential) and the electrical supply network.

Our Marketing Manager, Sally recently sat down with our Level 2 Electrician Stephen Forsyth for a quick chat about his role at O'Brien Electrical & Plumbing Lismore.

Q: What initially drew you to a career as a Level 2 electrician, and how has that passion evolved over time?

I’ve been drawn towards Level 2 work due to wanting to progress in my career and learn a new area of the trade that goes hand in hand with the work I do. The previous company I worked for also did Level 2 work, so I was able to learn and ask plenty of questions which in turn sparked my interest. My interest in this work is still strong as every day is different and I’m learning plenty of valuable knowledge.

Q: Can you discuss your experience with installing and maintaining electrical systems as a Level 2 electrician?

I previously worked with another Level 2 worker who I was able to discuss the trade with and watch him work. I’ve since completed my level 2 qualification as of October 2023, where I excelled in the initial course and continue to progress with on site experience. I am confident and have a positive relationship with this type of work.

Q: Can you share a specific moment or project that reaffirmed your love for this profession?

We recently assisted the Lismore City Council with a light up Lismore project, seeing the transformation here was incredible and seeing how much the community loved it was very satisfying.

Q: What steps do you take to stay updated on the latest advancements in electrical technology?

Information for the latest advancements in electrical technology can come from many different areas, whether it be through word of mouth or liaising with the wholesalers. Essential Energy forums/news is a handy way to stay up to date.

Q: Have you pursued any additional certifications or training to enhance your skills as a Level 2 electrician?

I obtained my medium rigid in order to be able to drive the EWP truck which I found enjoyable.

Q: In your role, what challenges are you faced with?

Some challenges I face in my every day work is working at heights safely, working on live conductors and job management. But I feel due to my experience and training I can confidently do these tasks.

Q: What aspects of being a Level 2 electrician do you find the most diverse and interesting?

I find that having an understanding of the entire network from power generation through to the final sub circuit is an interesting bit of knowledge and in turn the different ways of distribution of that power is diverse in itself.

Q: Are there specific areas within the field that you find particularly fascinating and strive to explore further?

I enjoy climbing poles and look forward to building up my confidence even more.

Q: How do you feel your work as a Level 2 electrician contributes to the broader community or industry?

My work as a level 2 electrician allows me to be able to work on many areas within the electrical trade, which in turn allows me to adapt to most jobs and be useful within the industry itself and in turn helps the broader community.
